Class Survey Conclusions

The results of the survey show us that American films are watched more than English films. A reason for this is that American film makers and studios usually have a much bigger budget, allowing them to film on better cameras, hier more well known actors, and have greater special effects. It also means they have more money to advertise their films, which is a very important part, as the advertisement is where the crowd are drawn. With a big budget you can advertise on the television, buses, posters, on the internet, by making video games whereas if the budget is smaller, these advertisement options are limited.

The survey also showed us the pro's and con's of the different methods of watching films. Watching a film in the cinema is the most well known way of watching films, because it gives people a chance to watch films when they first come out. The fact that the film does not have any breaks can be seen as a positive because it means there are no interruptions and you can focus solely on the film. Some people may see it as a negative, as they made need toilet breaks. Sometimes there can be rowdy groups of people in the cinema, talking very ludly, or crunching on popcorn, distracting you from the film, this is a negative. Dvds are another very popular way of watching films, because it gives people a chance to watch films whenever they want, and in the comfort of their own homes. It also means that if you need the toilet, or to go and do a small household job whilst the film is on, you can pause the film, this means you wont miss out on any important parts of the film. Watching films on television is another popular way of viewing films. It again means you can watch from the comfort of your own home and with technology now such as Sky+ and Virgin Media it means you can pause the film to avoid missing any key plots. You can also record programmes onto a planner using the same new technology, so if you see a film you want too see schedueled, you can record it, and it will be stored in your planner for as long as you want. Another way of watching films is to download them from the internet. This is illegal, and you can be charged for doing this. You could also download viruses onto your computer by doing this. Often the quality of the filming is amateur, and as it is filmed in a cinema, there are disturbances, such as people getting up and going to the loo. People still however like to download because it is quick, free of charge, and onced it is downloaded it is saved on to your computer for you to watch whenever.
